On Sunday, May 1, Wyandot Behavioral Health Network became a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). Wyandot BHN is one of the first six community mental health centers in the state of Kansas to achieve this designation.
In February 2021, Wyandot BHN received a $4 million CCBHC grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This grant funding set the process in motion for enhancing services to meet the standards of a CCBHC.
Over the past year plus, Wyandot Center and PACES have put a number of service enhancements in place. This includes the creation of an Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, establishing an open-access department allowing for same-day intakes for adults seeking treatment and receiving a Substance Use Disorder treatment license from the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services. This expansion and enrichment of services allowed Wyandot Center and PACES to bring more than 2,000 new clients into care during the first year of the SAMHSA CCBHC grant.
As a CCBHC, Wyandot BHN has a strong commitment to providing comprehensive care, using data to drive decision making and focusing on outcomes to ensure that we are delivering quality care. As part of these efforts, Wyandot BHN will work closely with primary care providers for coordination of care to meet the whole person needs of all Wyandot BHN consumers.
“This is a very exciting time for Wyandot BHN and for the Wyandotte County community,” says Randy Callstrom, Wyandot BHN President and CEO. “Becoming a CCBHC puts us in a position to more fully address the full spectrum of behavioral and physical health needs and improve health outcomes in Wyandotte County.”
