For the past couple of years, Wyandot Behavioral Health Network has been an active partner along with Kansas City Kansas Community College, Swope Health, CommunityAmerica Credit Union and the YMCA to build a new education, health and wellness campus in downtown Kansas City, Kansas. The goal is to establish a self-sustaining economic solution for downtown Kansas City, Kansas, to help end the social and economic inequities that have prevailed in this area for decades.
Wyandot BHN recently made the difficult decision to withdraw from this effort and pursue other options for establishing a service location in eastern Wyandotte County. Earlier this summer, we learned that a number of significant funding requests from state and federal sources had not come through. That setback, paired with rising construction costs, ultimately led to the decision to withdraw from the campaign.
The Wyandot BHN Board of Directors and leadership team remain committed to creating an outpatient treatment location in eastern Wyandotte County. The individuals and families who live in areas east of
I-635 deserve to be able to access quality mental health treatment and support services close to home. We are moving forward with plans to better serve this part of the community – just with a different strategy.
